CNIW Foundation Inaugural Board of Directors Established

The CNIW Foundation (North American Chinese Health Foundation) is a nationally registered charitable organization in Canada, dedicated to promoting the health of immigrants and vulnerable populations through educational outreach, research, and community services.

The following is the list of the inaugural Board of Directors, sorted by the number of strokes in their last name:

Currently, the inaugural CNIW Foundation Board of Directors consists of 10 members, but this will expand to 17 in the future. We welcome individuals who are willing to contribute to the foundation to apply for membership. If interested, please send your cover letter and resume to info@cniw.org. CNIW Foundation Chair: Dr. P. Peter Wang, Professor, University of Toronto & University of Toronto

Dr. Peizhong Peter Wang is a tenured professor at Memorial University and the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH). He also directs the Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being (CNIW). With a medical degree from Tianjin Medical University and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto, Dr. Wang’s research spans cancer epidemiology, immigrant health, aging, and more. He has led or co-led over 50 research grants and published 120+ peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Wang is deeply involved in community service, co-founding several non-profits and receiving the Ontario Volunteer Award twice. His contributions include setting up an online public health journal with over 400 articles. Dr. Wang frequently engages with the media on health topics, including COVID-19, and continues to shape public health discourse both in Canada and internationally.

CNIW Foundation Co-Chair (Academic): Dr. Xiaolin Wei, Professor, University of Toronto

Dr. Xiaolin Wei is a tenured professor and Dalla Lana Chair in Global Health Policy at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. A medical doctor and public health specialist, his research focuses on global health challenges, including antimicrobial resistance, tuberculosis, diabetes, hypertension, and primary care. Dr. Wei is a leader in implementation science and has held prominent roles such as Vice President of the International Union of Lung Disease. He has served as a consultant for the World Health Organization on tuberculosis and antimicrobial resistance. With over $12 million in research funding and more than 160 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Wei has established partnerships in numerous low- and middle-income countries, making significant contributions to health policy and clinical practice. He regularly supervises doctoral students and teaches courses on global health and public health research.

CNIW Foundation Co-Chair (Community Eneagement): Mr. Cheng Zeng

Cheng Zeng (曾诚) is the Research & Development Manager at Kirchhoff Automotive in Aurora, Ontario, where he has led projects in lightweight materials, joining technologies, and advanced welding processes since 2011. His innovations have resulted in multiple patents and successful production implementations, such as Gen 3 steel forming and aluminum hybrid joints. Cheng has also developed comprehensive process monitoring systems to ensure high product quality. Prior to this, he worked as a Process Research Specialist at Van-Rob Inc., focusing on robotic welding process development and optimization. Cheng holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University and a Bachelor’s degree from East China Jiaotong University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and an active community leader, serving as Executive President of the Canada-China Economic Trade and Cultural Exchange Promotion Alliance (CCEA). Cheng has published extensively and has presented at numerous industry conferences.

Dr. Mark Chen (陈平安) is the CEO and Co-Founder of Dawn InfoTek Inc., an IT consulting company he established in 1997. Under his leadership, the firm has grown to over 100 employees, providing cutting-edge monitoring technology solutions to major financial institutions across Canada. Mark holds a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Carleton University and transitioned from engineering to IT, where he now leads technological innovations in the banking sector. His company has earned multiple awards, including the ACCE Most Progressive Award (2018), and was listed among Canada’s Top 500 Fastest Growing Companies (2019). Mark also actively contributes to the community, serving as the Founder and President of both the Canada Green Sharks Golf Association and the Angus Cup Chinese Golf Invitational Tournament. With extensive leadership experience in both corporate and non-profit sectors, Mark brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the CNIW Foundation.

Sam Xiaoming Wang (王晓鸣,Left) graduated from Zhejiang University in 1982, specializing in radio technology, and began his career at the Xi’an Satellite Control Center and China Unicom. In 1998, he immigrated to Canada and has since built a successful career in telecommunications, joining AT&T Canada in 1999, where he continues to work. Beyond his professional pursuits, Sam is deeply committed to community service. He served as President of the Zhejiang University Alumni Association in Canada and currently holds leadership roles as Vice Chairman of the Canada-China Economic, Trade and Cultural Exchange Promotion Alliance and Executive Chairman of the Canadian Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce.

For over 20 years, Sam has actively supported new immigrants, helping them integrate, build networks, and access business opportunities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a crucial role in fundraising for personal protective equipment and supporting online seminars. In 2020, he was honored with the 15 Years Volunteer Service Award from the Government of Ontario.
