As part of the Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being (CNIW) Public Health Research Summer Camp program, students are supervised by CNIW-affiliated professors, scientists, and graduate students. Research camp students, along with summer research & teaching assistants sponsored by the Canadian Federal Government, are encouraged to share their research work at national and international academic conferences.
This year, one of the CNIW student submissions has been accepted by the American College of Epidemiology (ACE). The accepted abstract, titled “Sources of COVID-19 infection among Chinese immigrants in Canada”, is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada through a community grant. It was a combined effort of several CNIW Research camp students, including Diana Li, Alex Wang, Leo Chen, Edward Yang, and Ms. Suky Zheng (CNIW summer research & teaching assistant and 3rd-year McMaster Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences student), who will be presenting this research work on behalf of the research group at the annual ACE conference meeting this September.

In addition to a conference presentation, the accepted abstract will also be published in a special abstract issue of “Annals of Epidemiology”, an international peer-reviewed journal (sponsored by the American College of Epidemiology) that is devoted to epidemiologic research.
This study was supervised by Professor, Peizhong Peter Wang (https://www.dlsph.utoronto.ca/faculty-profile/wang-peter/), Dr. Xiao Han, and Ms. Nan Lei (MSc. student at Memorial University).
