Dr. Peizhong (Peter) Wang Shortlisted for the 2025 Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards
The Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being (CNIW) is proud to share that our founder and president, Dr. Peizhong (Peter) Wang, has been named a finalist for the 2025 Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards, presented by Canadian Immigrant magazine and Western Union.

This prestigious national award program—now in its 17th year—celebrates immigrants who have made exceptional contributions to Canada through innovation, leadership, and service. Dr. Wang's nomination recognizes his decades-long dedication to immigrant health equity, cancer prevention, and public health advocacy.
An internationally recognized epidemiologist and professor at Memorial University and the University of Toronto, Dr. Wang has led numerous research projects and authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications. His pioneering work has significantly influenced cancer control policies, immigrant health programs, and chronic disease prevention strategies in Canada.
Beyond academia, Dr. Wang has played a pivotal role in founding several impactful organizations, including: Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being (CNIW, www.cniw.org) and the CNIW Foundation – Advancing health education, mental health support, and peer-led programs for newcomers and underserved populations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Wang’s leadership mobilized life-saving resources such as PPE donations, mental health hotlines, and widely shared public health education materials, reaching over millions of people.
Dr. Wang has also been recognized with numerous honours, including the Ontario Volunteer Award, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award, and being named a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology.
