New Tool Developed to Measure Health System Navigation Literacy Among Chinese Immigrants in Canada
A groundbreaking study carried out by a team of university researchers and the Centre for New Immigrant Well-Being (CNIW) has created and tested a new tool called HSL-CAN (Health System Literacy–Canada). This tool measures how well Chinese immigrants understand and navigate Canada’s healthcare system—such as finding the right services, communicating with providers, and using information to make care decisions.
Published in the journal Healthcare (link to article), this study represents an important step toward improving access to healthcare for immigrant communities and reducing the barriers newcomers often face in Canada’s complex health system. This study was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada.
