Over the past months, our alumna Junli Wang has been facing one of the most difficult moments of her life.

Ms. Wang graduated from Tianjin Medical University with a degree in Clinical Medicine. She grew up in a mountainous region of China and, through perseverance, discipline, and years of hard work, fulfilled her dream of becoming a physician. She practiced in obstetrics and gynecology in China before immigrating to Canada.

After settling in Canada, Ms. Wang chose to begin again. She returned to school, obtained her designation as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), and went on to work for nearly twenty years in long-term care facilities across Toronto, Ottawa, and Mississauga. Throughout her career, she was known for her professionalism, patience, and compassion—particularly in caring for elderly patients. Whether during routine clinical work or under the extraordinary pressures of public health crises, she remained quietly committed on the front lines. Colleagues, patients, and families consistently remember her as calm, gentle, and deeply dependable.

Earlier this summer, Ms. Wang and her family had planned a long-awaited trip to Europe. Shortly before departure, however, she began experiencing significant physical discomfort and symptoms of anemia, which prevented her from traveling. Further medical investigations revealed that the anemia was not incidental, but the result of advanced gastric cancer. Looking back, her family is heartbroken. For many years, Ms. Wang devoted herself fully to both her work and her family—often working long hours and carrying heavy responsibilities—while rarely pausing to attend to her own health. Caring for others had become second nature; caring for herself was quietly postponed.

Throughout this journey, Ms. Wang and her family have felt deeply moved by the kindness and concern shown by alumni and the wider community. Whether through professional guidance, practical assistance, or simple words of encouragement, each gesture has offered comfort and strength. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who has reached out. It is through this quiet companionship that dignity, understanding, and humanity continue to shine, even at life’s most challenging moments.

With the full consent of the family, Alumni Association President Yao Zheng and Executive President Jing Zhang, together with others, have assisted in setting up a GoFundMe page to help cover unavoidable expenses related to end-of-life care and the period that follows.
