CNIW’s 2026 summer research project is now open for applications. This project focuses on barriers faced by Chinese immigrant pregnant women in accessing healthcare services, particularly in relation to vaccine understanding and health information. It integrates research, targeted interventions, and community engagement, and we are recruiting Research Support Officers to support project implementation.

Position Details

  • Position Title: Research Support Officer
  • Start Date: May 4, 2026
  • Duration: 8 weeks
  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Wage: $17.60 per hour

Key Responsibilities

1. Research and Data Collection

  • Conduct surveys and interviews to identify barriers such as language challenges, cultural misconceptions, and limited access to information
  • Assist with data collection, transcription, and basic analysis

2. Health Interventions and Program Support

  • Support the design and delivery of workshops and information sessions on vaccine awareness and health literacy
  • Help develop culturally appropriate materials in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English
  • Assist in digital health literacy initiatives to improve participants’ ability to assess online health information

3. Communications and Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with Chinese media outlets and social media platforms to support outreach
  • Assist in planning and implementing community events (e.g., workshops, public talks, engagement activities)
  • Contribute to storytelling projects (e.g., videos, written narratives, documentaries) highlighting positive vaccine experiences
  • Adapt communication materials to ensure cultural relevance and accessibility

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student in Public Health, Communications, Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Strong interest in community health, vaccine education, or cross-cultural issues
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse communities
  • Proficiency in Mandarin or Cantonese is highly desirable (but not required)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to support outreach or event planning

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person with refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation
